Regime Change?
They say people power is now necessary because the people have run out of options. That the courts are too busy and judges are controlled by the government. That people troop to the streets to ventilate because the government does not seem to hear them. That, at least, is the perception of some. Not all problems against the government can be resorted to by people power. People power had a time and an answer back then, but has there been any meanignful change? Has people power really changed our nation for the better? The problem with most of those in the opposition is they have their own individual agenda. Even amongst themselves they fight over what needs to be done and who should lead. There is no single, charismatic individual who can bring them together under one goal. Most of those in the opposition oppose simply because they never got what they wanted from the present dispensation. Much like a child who gets no candy - the child throws a tantrum and runs to the street and yells…nag dadabog. How can we begin to solve our problems if we don’t learn to trust our court and justice system? We have the Ombudsman, Sandiganbayan, and the Supreme Court. Of what use then are these institutions if we don’t bring our gripes to them? Impatient Nation Let’s take a hard look at ourselves. We are a culture of impatient people. We can’t seem to wait for change to favor us. Whenever we don’t agree with a leader we run to the streets. We cry foul. We begin to throw a tantrum. Immaturity We almost got there, the progress of the Ramos years. But we lost it because of our immaturity as an electorate as well as our impatience. We all sem to want a piece of the pie without thinking of the consequences. People power has its good points, but it is causing greater harm for a nation like ours simply because we have done it too many times so much so that people and most specially investors are wary and tired of it. Another people power will only set us back and ruin our economy, and may take much longer to recover from. If we must resort to regime change, let us do so with one thought in heart: change must be absolute. Spares no one. We must begin to work for the common good, have a common goal, act with one heart, one mind, one soul for the progress not only of our nation but of ourselves. Until we do so, we will always have the same problems, the same people running government, the same corrupt practices over and over again. Nations like Japan, Singapore, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand are economically strong and successsful because the government and people work and think as one. They think of the whole rather than the self. They have a disciplined mindset. They simply care for their country and are proud of it. How proud are you of yours?

Contributor's Note
This is all about Philippine politics and alleged corruption by the Arroyo government. It is about the people getting tired of patronage politics and a desire for better governance.
